The first test between Sri Lanka and India, which would be Kohli’s landmark 100th Test would have spectators confirmed BCCI secretary on Tuesday evening. The match is scheduled at Mohali on March 4th.
“The first Test between India and Sri Lanka to be played at the Punjab Cricket Stadium in Mohali will not be held behind closed doors. The decision to allow spectators into the ground is one taken by the State Cricketing Associations and in the present circumstances, is based on various factors. I have spoken with the PCA office bearers and they have confirmed that cricket fans will be able to witness the historic moment of Virat Kohli playing his 100th Test match,” said Jay Shah, secretary BCCI
The announcement came a week after, the PAC confirmed that the first red-ball match against Sri-Lanka would be played behind closed doors. “I am really looking forward to Virat Kohli’s 100th Test and wish our champion cricketer the very best. This is an occasion for our fans to savour. May he continue to represent the country in many more matches to come,” he added.
With the permission to accommodate 50 per cent of stadium capacity at Mohali, the treasurer announced online ticket sales from Wednesday onwards.
Kohli, an ace right-handed batsman made his Test debut against the Windies at Kingston in 2011. The ex-captain has scored 7962 runs from 99 red ball matches in his career spanning over a decade. He stands as the 12th Indian to play 100 Tests after Sachin Tendulkar Rahul Dravid, and VVS Laxman who are at the top position in the list.
