Dinesh Karthik took to social media on his 39th birthday to clarify that he was making his retirement ‘official’. Notably, many people began sending congratulatory messages to Karthik following his final IPL game, but the batsman revealed he thought long and hard before making the final decision.
“I’ve been overwhelmed by the affection, support, and love I have received in the last few days. My deepest gratitude and sincere thanks to all the fans who have made this feeling possible,” Karthik clarified his statement. “After much consideration, I’ve chosen to retire from representative cricket. I officially announce my retirement and put my playing days behind me as I prepare for the new challenges ahead.”
Karthik’s retiring post featured collage images from his playing days. Karthik played 26 Tests, 94 ODIs, and 60 T20Is for India from 2004 to 2022, a 19-year career. Notably, Karthik made his international debut before MS Dhoni but had a stop-start career at the highest level due to the latter’s continuous performance.

Among the millions of people that participate in our sport, I consider myself one of the fortunate few to have had the opportunity to represent the country, and even more fortunate to have won the support of so many fans and friends.”
“Over the years, my parents have been pillars of strength and support, and I would not be who I am today without their blessings. I also owe a lot to Dipika, a professional athlete who frequently sacrificed her career to accompany me on my journey.”
