Delhi Capitals defeated Mumbai Indians by 9 wickets on Monday to go atop the points table. Despite having same points, the former team ranks ahead with better net run rate.
Opting to bowl after winning the toss Meg Lanning remained unbeaten on 32 as the DC chased down the target of 110 runs in 9 overs. Shafali Verma also scored quick-fire 33. Earlier, Marizanne Kapp, Shikha Pandey and Jess Jonassen took two wickets apiece as DC restricted MI at 109 for 8 in 20 overs.
Marizanne Kapp got the ball to move in the air and off the deck as well and she dismissed a couple of top-class Mumbai batters to set the tone. The likes of Shikha Pandey and Arundhati Reddy kept up the good work by picking up wickets. Jess Jonassen and Radha Yadav bowled economically and it was only Poonam Yadav who didn’t have a positive outing with the ball for Delhi. The top three batters failed for Mumbai, however Handy knocks from Issy Wong, Pooja Vastrakar and Amanjot Kaur managed to take Mumbai over the 100-run mark.
Moments ago in a separate match, UP Warriorz defeated Gujarat Giants by three wickets at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Opting to bat first, Gujarat lost some wickets initially but Ashleigh Gardner (60) and Dayalan Hemlatha (57) smashed their respective half-centuries to take their side to a total of 178/6 in 20 overs. Later, UP Warriorz stumbled a bit but Grace Harris smashed 72 off 41 balls while Tahlia McGrath scored 57 off 38 balls as they registered a three-wicket win to enter the Playoffs stage
