Hangzhou: India’s impressive tally comprising of 28 gold, 38 silver and 41 bronze medals outstripped the 70 medals secured by 570-athlete team four years back. While China is leading the medal count with a mammoth of 200 golds, trailing Japan and South Korea, India’s contribution is still significant as it crosses 100-mark medal tally.
As the Asian Games 2023 comes to an end, the Indian contingent has its own enthralling experience, with best-ever finish in the quadrennial event’s history by claiming total 28 medals and 107 overall medals. Now, Hangzhou has proved to be a gateway to Paris 2024 Olympics, offering 74 quotas across various sports.
India’s shooters stole the spotlight claiming 22 medals, seven of which shimmered in gold. Athletics too had its moment of glory as Neeraj Chopra defended his Javelin Throw title, with track and field events yielding India six gold, 14 silver, and nine bronze medals.
India and Iran were involved in an intense battle at the Kabaddi mat as they were hard to separate after the end of 38 minutes. In the last minute, Indian captain Pawan Sehwarat went in the do-and-die raid and claimed a no-touch before entering the lobby. Archery proved another feather in India’s cap, with cricket and kabaddi contingents kept the gold rusk alive with two each.
