Neeraj Chopra on Thursday scripted a new national record with a gigantic 89.94 m throw at the Stockholm Diamond League.

The 24-year-old athlete smashed his previous record of 89.30m which was set by him in the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku. Grenadian athlete Anderson Peterson stood at the top after breaching the 90m in his third attempt. His throw reportedly struck a distance of 90.31m.

He failed to better his first attempt and bagged a silver medal at the Diamond League. Peter took Gold while Germany’s Julian Weber took the bronze after throwing 89.0m in his fifth attempt.

This was the first time Chopra participated in the Diamond League meet after his fourth place in Zurich in August 2018 where he hit a distance of 85.73m.
