India might be forced to start their T20 world cup 2026 season without their pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah who fell ill before the start of their first match with the USA at the Wankhede stadium later this evening at Mumbai. It is reported that Bumrah is off with a fever and the management of the team is not ready to risk and place him in the playing XI.

Bumrah had attended the pre match practice session in India but did not participate in the training which further raised doubts of his availability. Without him there, Mohammed Siraj would probably be tried into the XI. Siraj later re-joined the team on Friday as a replacement of the injured Harshit Rana and will play his first T20 International in almost two years. In the meantime, all-rounder Washington Sundar is yet to pass through the National Cricket Academy.

The change in the top of the batting order is also anticipated in India, and Ishan Kishan is probably going to open with Abhishek Sharma in the place of Sanju Samson. Kishan has made an impression since he reemerged in the T20I format with 76 and 103 runs against New Zealand, then a scintillating 53 with only 20 balls in a warm-up against South Africa, evidence of his explosiveness.

The game will be the first time India will face the USA since they faced each other in the 2024 T20 World Cup when the Americans put India at a disadvantage and Suryakumar Yadav guided his team to victory with calmness. India may begin as huge favourites, but the uncertainty of T20 cricket has ensured no outcomes are assured.
