The fourth test of the series between India and Australia ended in a draw paving way for the hosts to the BGT 2-1 and also qualify for the World Test Championship. Day 5 ended in a draw at Ahmedabad.
Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith remain unbeaten at the crease with the visitors at 175/2. Axar Patel completed his 50th Test wicket by cleaning up Travis Head a little before the tea break. It came as a big blow for Australia as the opening batter departed for 90.
After Head’s dismissal, he was joined by captain Steve Smith in the middle. Earlier, India started off in a terrific fashion as Aswhin got rid of nightwatchman Matthew Kuhnemann early in the morning session. On Sunday, Virat Kohli hiy186 as India posted 571 in reply to Aussies 480 taking the first innings lead of 91 runs. Apart from Kohli, Gill also struck a century. Australia at stumps were three for no loss in their second essay with Matthew Kuhnemann (0 batting) and Travis Head (3 batting) seeing through their six overs in the final session.
Earlier today, India qualified for WTC booking the second spot after Australia had become the first team to seal their progression. India’s qualification came as a result of New Zealand’s triumph over Sri Lanka in the first Test at Christchurch. Despite a rain delay, the Kiwis successfully chased down the target of 285 runs on Day 5. Sri Lanka needed to win both their Tests against New Zealand to remain in the WTC final hunt but they couldn’t get the better of the hosts in the opener on Monday.
