India retained the Border Gavaskar Trophy(BGT) after defeating Australia by 6 wickets in the second Test of the four-match series at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday. With this men in blue have ensured they cannot loose this Test series with two more matches left.
Chasing a target of 115 in the fourth innings, India comfortably sailed through thanks to Cheteshwar Pujara’s unbeaten 31. Virat Kohli achieved another massive feat leading India’s batting charge after the dismissal of skipper Rohit Sharma. He emerged as the fastest batter to score 25,000 International runs. The former Indian skipper has shattered the world record which was previously set by Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar in international cricket. Batting icon Kohli has achieved the incredible feat in 549 innings.
Rohit Sharma also played beautifully before he was run out with a horrible mix with Pujara. KL Rahul fell in a bizarre fashion before lunch. Ravindra Jadeja ripped apart Australia with his career-best figure of 7 for 42. He also completed his second wicket haul in Test cricket while R Ashwin added to his tally with3 wickets.
For Australia, the Border Gavaskar Trophy has been away for a decade now. It was in 2014-15 they took the trophy winning 2-0 at home. It was a poor performance by the Aussies who would have expected to improve on their first innings efforts. Unfortunately,, Usman Khawaja and Peter Handscomb failed to make a mark in the second innings. Steve Smith continued to have a poor Test Match. He flopped on Sunday consecutively after a suck on Friday.
