The Board of Control for Cricket in India for the first edition of women’s IPL has set the bar for each franchise. It has confirmed that the tender will float tender for five teams with a base price of Rs 400 crore. The cricket body mentioned that it would soon issue the document for e-auction. All the existing IPL franchises can also participate in the e-auction, it added.

The much-anticipated women’s IPL will kick off in 2023 and BCCI expects that the franchise will be sold for something between Rs 1000 Crores to 1500 Crores. If it goes as expected then BCCI can raise nearly 5000 to 7500 crores. “The winning franchise will pay the ownership fees to the BCCI over a period of five years in equal installments and continue to own the property for perpetuity, like in the men’s IPL,” said officials in the know.

At the 91st Annual General Meeting, the general body of cricket had approved of women IPL to be held in 2023. The event will witness 20 league matches with only 18 players in each team. The table toppers will directly qualify for the finals, while the next two ranked teams will play in an eliminator.

The board further added that there can be no more than five overseas players in the playing XI of the Women’s IPL.
