New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to have a closing ceremony for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The popular T20 league hasn’t had an opening or a closing ceremony since the 2019 edition but the BCCI is hoping to have one at the end of this season, provided the Covid-19 situation is under control in the country.

Notably, the BCCI on Saturday, April 16th, called for proposals for staging the closing ceremony. “The BCCI invites bids from reputed entities for staging the Closing Ceremony of IPL 2022, through a tender process,” the Indian cricket body said in a release, adding that a ‘Request for Proposal’ document will be available for Rs 1 lakh. The RFP will be available for purchase till April 25th, 2022. The IPL 2022 final, it has been learnt will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 29th.

The IPL hasn’t had an opening or closing ceremony since 2019. IPL 2020 and 2021 were not glittery affairs as the tournament was held behind closed doors or with partial crowd amid trying times in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, with the Covid-19 situation in control in India, the BCCI allowed 25 per cent crowd capacity at the 4 venues in Mumbai and Pune for IPL 2022.

Meanwhile, the Eden Gardens in Kolkata is likely to host the qualifier 1 and eliminator of the Indian Premier League, while the qualifier 2 and the final will be held. Lucknow is also in contention to host the qualifier 1 and the eliminator.
