Navi Mumbai: In a spectacular display of support and appreciation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a colossal cash prize of INR 51 crore for the Indian women’s cricket team, following their historic maiden World Cup title victory. The reward of INR 51 crore is higher than the prize money India will receive from the ICC. The apex cricket body will be handing out the tournament winners a prize of USD 4.48 million, which roughly translates to INR 39.78 crore.

Speaking to media, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the Indian board will be giving the women’s team a prize of INR 51 crore as they want to show their appreciation for winning a competitive tournament like the World Cup.

“Definitely, we have to thank Jay Shah, who is the chair of ICC, because just one month prior to this tournament, they increased the prize money of the ICC Women’s World Cup. That is, there is an upshot of about 300 per cent of the prize money,” said Saikia.

The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side clinched the coveted trophy after a commanding 52-run victory over South Africa in the summit clash at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. In a tweet, posted by Jay Shah minutes after the win acknowledged the increase in investment in the game.

The triumph, played out in front of an ecstatic home crowd, finally ended the team’s long wait for a global title, overcoming the heartbreak of final losses in the 2005 and 2017 editions. The 2025 tournament, hosted by India, proved to be the turning point that etched the team’s name in history.
