The Indian contingent on the Asian Youth and Junior Boxing Championship has managed to win 39 medals for the country. While the junior boxers have won 19 medals, the youth and junior together won 20 medals across several matches. There are 14 gold medals also in the list of the 39 medals won by the Indian boxing champions. On the last day of the game, Preeti Dahiya won gold alongside 3 other women boxers. 

Boxer Bishwamitra Chongtham won the first yellow metal for the country in the asian youth championship in the last seven years. He won the men’s 51 kg category. Neha on the other hand brought first gold in the 54 kg women’s category. Preeti won gold in the 60 kg category whereas Sneha Kumari and Khusi won gold in the 66 kg and 75 kg category respectively. 

The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has acknowledged the efforts put in by these young boxers. BFI President Ajay Singh said, “This has been a brilliant outing for our junior and youth boxers. Winning 39 medals is a commendable achievement and it only shows the depth of boxing talent we have in India. As a federation, we are committed to identify and promote more and more youngsters from across the country, ensuring best coaching and guidance to groom them into future champions at the elite level”.

He further added, “I’m sure the valuable experience gained in such a big tournament will help these boxers to curve a strong path for themselves. On behalf of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), I congratulate all the winners once again and the coaches and support staff for this successful campaign, and wish them good luck for future tournaments”.

This is a great year for India in terms of sports as several athletes and sportspersons are showing wonderful performances, be with the Olympics, Paralympics or Boxing in this case.
