People from many countries are getting ready to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha, known in some regions as Bakrid, which is regarded as a highly important festival for Muslims. On June 7, 2025, Eid-ul-Adha will be observed by people living in India, Nigeria, Morocco, Bangladesh, Malaysia and New Zealand. On account of the weekend timing, June 6, 2025, which is Friday, is planned to become a national holiday in India and allow people to have a three-day weekend with their loved ones.
This holiday is well-known as the Festival of Sacrifice, as it celebrates how Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) sacrificed his son to follow the instructions given to him by God. During this occasion, people sacrifice animals like sheep, goat, cow or camel, divide the meat into three portions and share it with family, relatives and friends and those who need help. Through the ritual, people are reminded of how loving, committed and unselfish they ought to be.
Since the Islamic calendar is lunar, the festival takes place every year on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah. On May 29, 2025, the crescent moon was seen, which started the holy month of Ramadan. So, the Day of Arafat will take place on June 6, 2025, making it an important day for Muslims to worship and pray.
Because this holiday has religious and cultural value, and Arafat Day happens on a Friday this year, June 6 is expected to be a national holiday in many parts of India. This day is a chance for Indians to join in religious ceremonies, see their families and do something for others.
