SRINAGAR: The BJP alleged that the Omar Abdullah government failed on every front during its tenure in Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing a press conference, BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur stated that the government had not delivered on its manifesto promises, including providing 12 free gas cylinders, 200 units of free electricity, 10 kilograms of rice, one lakh jobs, and regularizing daily wagers.

Thakur highlighted that despite three months in power, the National Conference (NC)-led administration remained ineffective. Referring to last week’s snowfall in the valley, including Srinagar, he said, “There was light snowfall, but even on the fourth day, link roads are still closed. Snow clearance and electricity restoration are only claims made on paper. Viral videos show residents pleading for basic amenities like road access and electricity.”

Thakur also accused Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of making U-turns on his commitments. “When out of power, NC leaders vowed to remove electricity meters. Now in power, they demand 100% metering for round-the-clock electricity,” he remarked.

The BJP spokesperson urged Abdullah to meet the expectations of the people. “The public trusted you, but your administration has consistently failed. Even light snowfall has created severe hardships,” Thakur said.

On BJP’s achievements, Thakur emphasized that peaceful assembly elections were conducted without violence, asserting that the BJP government had eradicated terrorism in Kashmir. He also announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would inaugurate the Vande Bharat train connecting Kashmir to the rest of the country on January 26.

The BJP’s J&K unit revealed that 1.75 lakh new members had joined the party through its membership drive, bringing the total to 5.25 lakh members since 2019.
