Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation to governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Sunday, breaking away from the grand alliance less than 18 months after forming a new government in the state with the support of Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal.
CM and JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar exited the 28-party Opposition bloc formed to take on the BJP-led Central government. Bhartiya Janata Party is also holding a meeting with its MLAs and MPs in Patna today to chalk out the strategy over the latest political situation in the state. The ruling JD(U)-RJD-Congress coalition in Bihar is on the brink of collapse, as there is likelihood that Kumar could cross over to the NDA again, the alliance he parted his ways in 2022 to form the ‘mahagathbandhan’.
Amid the “confusion” over Nitish Kumar’s stance, the Congress said it is hopeful and that party chief Mallikarjun Kharge is “trying to speak with the Bihar chief minister”. Meanwhile, sources told ANI that during the RJD leaders’ meeting, Tejashwi Yadav had hinted at many unexpected developments in the state.
The party’s political adviser and spokesperson K C Tyagi told reporters in Delhi that the grand alliance government in Bihar is on the verge of collapse, and accused a section of the Congress leadership of repeatedly “insulting” Kumar.
“The INDIA bloc is on the verge of collapse. The alliance of INDIA bloc parties is almost over in Punjab, West Bengal and Bihar,” he said.
