Kolkata, West Bengal: Leaving political supporters of both BJP and TMC in awe, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Opposition party Leader Suvendu Adhikary met today over tea. They both have been at loggerheads since the 2020 end when Suvendu, who once used to be a close aide of the TMC political party left the party and joined the opposition BJP before the Bengal assembly elections.
Soon after, he also defeated the Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee from Nandigram and became the MLA of the constituency. However, they were once very close and the CM even considered her as her brother. Today, for the first time since Suvendu left the TMC party, they both met at a “courtesy meeting” on the “Constitution Day” program arranged by the CM of the state.
This has created political confusion among supporters of both parties. However, Suvendu denied any “patch-up” story and said “It was just a courtesy meeting. I did not have tea with the CM.” He visited the CM’s chamber along with other prominent BJP leaders Agnimitra Paul and Manoj Tigga. No wonder Congress party leaders are also criticizing this move and said that the “Didi-Modi” patch-up is underway soon.
Kamruzzaman Chowdhury, a Congress Leader said, “The Centre released funds for Pradhan Mantri Gram Awas Yojana yesterday, and Mamata is scheduled to meet PM Modi on December 5. Today, the CM met Suvendu. All these point to the fact that the process for the Didi-Modi patch-up” is underway.”
Notably, the 2024 Lok Sabha elections are not very far and thus the political tension between both parties is expected to gain momentum as seen in the last assembly elections. However, Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee also said that this was just a courtesy meeting and that she invited Suvendu Adhikary over tea as she once considered her as a brother.
