New Delhi: According to most exit poll forecasts, the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance would win more than 340 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, while the INDIA opposition coalition may win around 200 seats.
According to bookies and punters in Delhi, the NDA might win between 341 and 343 seats, while the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance could win between 198 and 200 seats, a source in the bookie network informed the media.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is predicted to win 310 to 313 seats on its own, while the Congress may win 57 to 59 seats, according to the odds. According to a source, the India group has been assigned one of Delhi’s seven Lok Sabha seats. The betting market opened two weeks ago, and so far, crores of rupees have been gambled on election results in Delhi-NCR, sources said, adding that punters come from both the city and beyond.
According to a police officer, a punter is a person who places bets, whereas a bookie is the person who chooses the stakes, and the bookie makes commission as a result.
Betting is illegal in India; therefore, police keep a close check on bookies and punters. Anyone caught betting can be punished under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code, a crime punishable by up to seven years in jail.
The NDA has low betting market rates since its winning likelihood is strong, according to the source, adding that betting on the INDIA bloc is “risky” and so the prices for bets on the opposition alliance are high.
While bookmakers forecast another comfortable NDA victory with a full majority, they have ruled out the idea of the alliance exceeding 400 members, another source added. He stated that a Dubai-based bookie network has also projected a landslide victory for the NDA in the polls.
According to the police official, many people have placed many bets so that if they lose one, they can recover it with another. While BJP leaders claim a tremendous election triumph for their party with over 400 seats, the India bloc predicts 295 seats.
The final round of voting in the seven-phase election was held on June 1. The counting of votes cast for the 543 Lok Sabha seats will take place on Tuesday.
