Bengaluru: A total of 2,613 candidates in the poll fray, the ruling BJP fielded in 224 Assembly seats, Congress in 223, AAP in 209, JD(S) in 207, BSP in 133, CPI(M) in 4, JD(U) in 8, NPP in 2 and 918 independent candidates. The Congress party has got a shot in the arm ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, with the results in Karnataka showing the party leading in 120 seats, clearly above the majority mark of 113.
The senior Congress leaders, K Siddaramaih and DK Shivakumar are leading in their respective constituencies. So far, the big takeaway from the election results seems that BJP has lost significant ground in Lingayat dominated reguon. BJP’s richest MLA MTB Nagaraj was trailing from the Hoskate assembly seat.
JD(S) candidate H.P. Swaroop is said to have won against BJP MLA Preetham Gowda. The constituency had attracted statewide attention ahead of the elections as Bhavani Revanna is the wife of former minister H. D. Revanna.
