On Thursday, the Congress released its fourth list of five candidates for the Haryana assembly elections. It fielded a journalist from Rania who had recently joined the party, taking the total number of declared candidates to 86.
This list was released shortly after the Congress revealed its third list of forty candidates, which included Kaithal MP Aditya Surjewala, the son of party MP Randeep Surjewala. The party fielded Rohit Nagar from Tigaon, Sachin Kundu, the party’s youth leader, from Panipat Rural, Satbir Dublain from Narwana (SC), and Parimal Pari from Ambala Cantt.
Recently, journalist Sarva Mitra Kamboj joined the Congress in the presence of Udai Bhan, the head of the party’s state unit, and former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. He was chosen to represent the Sirsa district’s Rania seat.
This seat was represented by former Independent MLA and Minister of Energy and Prisons Ranjit Chautala, who recently left the BJP after refusing to receive a ticket from Rania. Before joining the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha elections to run as a candidate from Hisar, he had resigned from the Vidhan Sabha.
After intense negotiating on both sides, the party and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were unable to reach an agreement on seat sharing for the Haryana elections. Multiple lists of AAP’s candidates have been released since then. Some Congress leaders had expressed reservations over a tie-up with the Arvind Kejriwal-led party.
