New Delhi: A police case has been registered against Congress’s Rahul Gandhi following a complaint by the BJP, holding him responsible for injuries to two MPs of the party. Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput sustained head injuries during parallel protests from Treasury and Opposition benches outside parliament. Both leaders, one of whom is 69 years old, are in the hospital.

Mr Gandhi has been accused under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita. The allegations include voluntarily causing grievous hurt, act of endangering life or personal safety of others, use of criminal force, criminal intimidation and common intention.

Parliament Adjourned Amid Sloganeering From Opposition

Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal alleged that the FIR against Rahul Gandhi is a diversionary tactic in response to his staunch protest against Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on B.R. Ambedkar.

In a post on X, Mr. Venugopal shared, “The FIR against Rahul Gandhi is nothing but a diversionary tactic in response to his staunch protest against the Home Minister. A case against him for defending Babasaheb’s legacy is a badge of honour. In any case, Rahul Gandhi is already facing 26 FIRs due to the BJP’s political vendetta and this latest FIR will not stop him or the Congress from standing up against the casteist RSS-BJP regime.”

FIR Against Rahul Gandhi: What Is The Controversy

This is in the midst of the controversy surrounding Rahul Gandhi’s alleged pushing of an MP as he was claiming to have been pushed himself after being barred from entering the Parliament. A fight broke out between the NDA and INDIA bloc MPs during a protest held on Parliament grounds, injuring two BJP MPs.

BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi has alleged that he was hurt after getting a push from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Mr. Sarangi stated that he suffered a head injury after another member of Parliament fell on him while he was standing on stairs. “Rahul Gandhi pushed a member of Parliament who fell on me, after which I fell down… I was standing near the stairs when Rahul Gandhi came and pushed an MP, who then fell on me…” Singh told reporters.

The MPs were both admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi. Both leaders were hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after suffering head injuries, according to Medical Superintendent Ajay Shukla. “Tests will be done. Symptomatic treatment has begun. Since both of them suffered head injuries, they were admitted to the ICU. Pratap Sarangi was experiencing heavy bleeding, and he had suffered a deep cut. So, he had to be stitched up. His evaluation is in progress,” Shukla said.
