On Saturday, an FIR was lodged in Guwahati against opposition leader Rahul Gandhi for his remarks against the BJP and RSS.

Gandhi’s statement this week on the “capture of the institution” is against the “sovereignty of India,” according to the complainant Monjit Chetia. The Leader said this of the Opposition during the opening of the Congress’s new Delhi headquarters. Gandhi said, “The BJP and RSS have captured every single institution, and we are now fighting the BJP, the RSS, and the Indian State itself.” Gandhi was referring to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, who claimed that “the date of the Ram Temple consecration in Ayodhya should be celebrated as the true Independence of India.”

In his complaint, Chetia has written that the statement “made in a public forum by a person who is presently holding the position of Leader of the Opposition is not an ordinary political remark… They represent a direct challenge to the integrity and stability of India, warranting immediate legal action.”

In accordance with Sections 152 and 197(1)(d) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), a cognizable and non-bailable offense, the FIR has been filed at the Pan Bazar police station in Guwahati for “acts endangering the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India.”

JP Nadda, the national head of the BJP, has accused Rahul Gandhi of working “in the direction of breaking India and dividing our society” after the BJP jumped on his comments about a “fight” with the Indian state.
