On Friday Congress leader Mohammed Arif (Naseem) resigned from the party’s campaign committee of Maharashtra due to the fact that there is not a single Muslim candidate on the Maha Vikas Aghadi’s (MVA) list for the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
Mohammed Arif said, “MVA has not nominated a single Muslim candidate in Maharashtra out of a total of 48 seats.” He declared “Congress ko Muslim vote chahiye ….candidate kyu nahi (Congress wants Muslim votes, but why not candidates)?”
He additionally said that “Many Muslim organizations, leaders and party workers from all over Maharashtra were expecting Congress to at least nominate 1 candidate but unfortunately Congress has also not nominated single Muslim candidate”.
Writing to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Arif mentioned the reasons to quit as the star campaigner. people and organizations associated with the Muslim community were upset after this “unfair decision” taken by the grand old party. Explaining his decision, he said that he will not be able to face and will have no answers to the Muslims and other Muslim organizations in Maharashtra who always raise this issue. “Therefore, I have decided not to campaign for the party during the Lok Sabha elections 2024”, he further added.
He clarified on Saturday, saying, “I’m with Congress and I will stay in Congress” as he expressed gratitude to AIMIM for their offer, but he declined it.
