Lucknow: Campaigning is underway for Monday’s fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections, in which as many as 49 parliamentary constituencies across six states and two Union territories will poll. High-profile names such as Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Smriti Irani, and Rahul Gandhi, are in the fray in the upcoming round.

While Singh and Irani are contesting from their current seats of Lucknow and Amethi, respectively, Gandhi is contesting from Rae Bareli. The Congress leader also fought from Kerala’s Wayanad, from where he is the sitting MP. All 20 Lok Sabha seats in Kerala voted in second phase on April 26.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold rallies in Lalganj (11 am), Jaunpur (12:30 pm), Bhadohi (2 pm) and Pratapgarh (3:45 pm). As many as 13 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh will vote in the fifth phase on May 20.

Further, on May 17, PM Modi will address an election rally at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park, Maharashtra BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule said on Wednesday. Mr Bawankule was speaking to reporters after meeting MNS chief Raj Thackeray, who has announced his party’s support to BJP-led NDA’s candidates in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.

“PM Modi will address a poll rally at Shivaji Park on Friday (May 17). I invited Raj Thackeray for the rally and he has agreed to attend it,” said the BJP leader.

Earlier on Wednesday, the PM addressed two elections in Maharashtra — in Nashik and Thane districts — in support of NDA nominees and also held a roadshow in Mumbai. Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed a rally in Hooghly, West Bengal, before proceeding to Odisha. Party insiders said after his arrival in Bhubaneswar, Shah addressed two public meetings in Sorada that is part of the Aska Lok Sabha seat and Boudh under Kandhamal Parliamentary constituency before arriving in Cuttack, where he held a roadshow in the evening. While Aska and Kandhamal will vote in the fifth phase, Cuttack will go to the polls on May 25 in the sixth phase.

The states that will poll in the fifth phase are Bihar (5/40 constituencies), Jharkhand (3/14), Maharashtra (13/48), Odisha (5/21), Uttar Pradesh (13/80) and West Bengal (7/42) while the UTs are Jammu and Kashmir (2/5) and Ladakh (1/1).
