Prayagraj: Allahabad High Court has dismissed the petition challenging the election of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi Lok Sabha seat. The case was heard by the court of Justice Saumitra Dayal Singh. This petition was filed by Vijay Nandan, who filed nomination for Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi.
Vijay Nandan had filed his nomination for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi. Which was rejected by the District Election Officer. Vijay Nandan, a resident of Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh, associated with the Janhit Party, said that the Election Officer had wrongly rejected his nomination. Due to this, he was deprived of his right to contest the elections.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has won UP’s Varanasi seat for the thrid consecutive time, defeating Congress’s Ajay Rai by a margin of 1,52,513 votes. In 2014, Narendra Modi defeated AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal by over 4 lakh votes and in 2019, he won against Samajwadi Party’s Shalini Yadav. Ajay Rai, who had also contested the last two elections against PM Modi was a distant third at the time.
