Politics: The ‘ripped jeans’ controversy is currently raging all over social media. Now, Jaya Bachchan, Veteran actor and MP of the Samajwadi party raised her voice on the matter. Recently, Uttarakhand CM criticized women who wear ripped jeans and he even questioned their ability to be the right parents for their children.
Jaya said, “Those in higher posts must think and make public statements. You say such things in today’s times, you will decide who is cultured and who is not based on clothes? It’s a bad mindset and encourages crimes against women”.
The CM said that nowadays the youngsters follow the Western culture and consider themselves to be big shots after wearing the jeans which are ripped at the knees. The women also are following such trends. He went on to describe the dress of a woman, who once sat on the flight next to him.
He said the woman was wearing jeans that were ripped at the knees. He further added, “She runs an NGO, goes out in the society and wears ripped jeans. What values will she impart?”
Navya Naveli Nanda, Jaya’s granddaughter, also responded to Rawat’s remark. Navya shared a screengrab of one of the statements of the CM on IG where she wrote, “Change your mentality before changing our clothes because the only thing shocking here is the message comments like this send to society”. In the next story, she shared a picture of herself wearing ripped jeans and said, “I will wear my ripped jeans. Thank you. And I’ll wear them proudly”.
