PM Modi China Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to travel to China on August 31 to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. The summit will take place in Tianjin. This is Modi’s first visit to China after the India-China military clash in the Galwan Valley in 2020. Modi had earlier gone there in 2018. As Prime Minister, PM Modi has visited China 5 times in 11 years. This is his sixth visit. This is the most visits to China by any Indian PM in 70 years.

For the unversed, SCO was established in 2001, which includes 10 member countries including India. The 25th meeting of SCO will be held in Tianjin city of China. It includes China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Iran, and Belarus.

Before he visited China, PM Modi will reach Tokyo, the capital of Japan, on August 30, where he will participate in the India-Japan annual summit. During this, he will meet Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, in which bilateral relations, investment and Indo-Pacific cooperation will be discussed. After this, Prime Minister Modi will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit to be held in Tianjin city of China between August 31 and September 1.

PM has visited China 5 times

Last month, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also visited China. This visit took place after the clash in Galwan and it is being seen as a step towards reducing tensions in the relations between the two countries. This was S Jaishankar’s first visit to China in 5 years. Jaishankar also participated in the SCO Foreign Ministers’ meeting here. PM Modi has visited China 5 times so far. The PM visited China for the first time in May 2015. In this visit, Xi Jinping took PM Modi to his home state, Xi’an. After this, he visited China in September 2016, September 2017, April 2018 and June 2018.

PM Modi and Xi Jinping last met in October 2024. In the talks that lasted for about 50 minutes between the two, many issues including maintaining peace and stability on the border were discussed. This visit of PM Modi can be important amid the imposition of tariffs by the US and pressure on the trade deal.

Jaishankar visited China last month

Last month, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar visited China, where he met President Xi Jinping and Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Jaishankar discussed issues such as sharing water resources data, trade restrictions, reducing tensions on the LAC and taking a tough stand against terrorism and extremism. According to media reports, this meeting prepared the roadmap for Modi’s China visit.
