Flagging science as a prime prospect of life, the world on 10th November celebrates World Science day for Peace and Development, highlighting the role of science in society and the need to engage and aware public. This day was proclaimed by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization in 2001 and is celebrated since 2002. It is only after the pandemic people discovered science and life as prime factors for the survival of mankind.
The motive behind this day is to ensure that citizens are kept well informed about the developments in Science and the role of scientists in broadening our understanding of our and making the world more sustainable.
UNESCO aims to promote solidarity between national and international thoughts over science, renew cross border commitments in the field of science, highlight challenges and endeavor to combat them. Following tradition, UNESCO this year decided to address the problems of climate change across the planet on the theme- Building Climate Ready Communities. The website talks about bringing science closer to society. Texts on the websites read, “The objective is to bring science closer to the society by highlighting some key scientific aspects and possible solutions provided by science, tech and innovation to some major challenges society is facing today.”
It all started in 1999, at the World Conference on Science in Budapest Hungary. During this conference importance of scientific knowledge from attaining humanistic to materialistic goals was highlighted.
