Lord Jagannath who fell ill after being given excessive bath with parwal juice by devotees, recovered and offered darshan to the devotees at the temple in Asi. The Palanquin Yatra (Rath Yatra) of Lord Jagannath will begin today afternoon at 3:30 PM and will reach Beniram’s garden at Rath Yatra at 4:30 PM. At 5 PM, the aarti-pooja of the chariot standing in front of Union Bank in Rath Yatra will be performed.
Further on July 7 at 3 AM the idols of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra will be placed on the Sriyantra-shaped chariot and the three-day Rath Yatra fair will begin.
Police administration is in no mood to show any leniency in crowd control following the consequences of the Hathras stampede. 18000 police personnel will be deployed for the 127th addition of the yatra. Additional Police Commissioner S Chinnapappa, DCP Suryakant Tripathi and ADCP Neetu inspected the security arrangements for the three-day Yatra fair. In addition to this, the temple’s chief priest Radheshyam Pandey on important points including the order of Jagannath Rath Yatra.
Jagannath Rath Yatra: Rituals & Significance
Jagannath Rath Yatra began with estimate ranging from 12th to 16th centuries. Since then annually Odisha explodes in vibrant colors. Better known as Chariot Festival, this is the oldest and grandest Hindu festivals, it falls on the second day of the waxing moon in month of Ashadha.
The centerpiece of this festival is the ceremonial journey of three deities- Lord Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra, and sister Subhadra. Devotees turn out in massive numbers throng the streets to pull the chariots along the grand avenue.
