Vice Presidential Election: The Election Commission has started preparations for the Vice Presidential election. The Election Commission has started preparations within 3 days of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation. The election dates will be announced soon. It is reported that the names of Thawar Chand Gehlot and Om Mathur are leading from the BJP for the new Vice President. Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot is considered to be the strongest contender. However, the BJP has also prepared a backup plan in case there is no consensus on the name.

Also, there is every possibility of a strong candidate being fielded from the opposition. In such a situation, NDA will give priority to the stature, experience and caste equation of the candidates for this post.

Meanwhile, the commission has started finalizing the electoral college, returning officer and other necessary things for this post. Amidst the preparations of the commission, the BJP will try to decide the name of its candidate and convince the allies on his name instead of making any other ally the candidate for this post.

The Constitution says in case a vice president dies in office or resigns or is removed, the poll to elect the next person to the office should be held “as soon as possible”. In such a situation, Nitish Kumar, VK Saxena, and Manoj Sinha can be three possible contenders for the position.
