Patna. Tomorrow (October 17th) is the last date for filing nominations for the first phase of the Bihar elections. As such, all political parties are busy announcing their candidates for the first phase. In this sequence, today, Thursday (October 16th), Upendra Kushwaha’s party, the Rashtriya Lok Morcha, announced the names of its remaining two candidates.

Congress in Bihar Elections

Until Tuesday night, the Congress Central Election Committee had approved candidates for 43 seats. The sub-committee, led by senior party leader Ajay Maken, is said to have cleared names for eight more seats on Wednesday.

Later, the party announced seven candidates, including Bihar Congress chief Rajesh Ram, who will contest from Kutumba. According to sources quoted by The Indian Express, the nine seats still undecided include Araria, Supaul, and Pranpur in Katihar district. The source said that in Araria, two-time Congress MLA Avidur Rahman may not be given a ticket this time. In Pranpur, the party has not yet decided whether to repeat last election’s candidate, Tauquir Alam. The same uncertainty remains for Supaul, where Minnatullah Rahmani had contested in 2020.

BJP in Bihar Elections

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched its campaign for the Bihar Assembly elections in full swing. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BJP star campaigner Yogi Adityanath arrived in Bihar on Thursday. He addressed a large public rally in the Danapur Assembly constituency near the capital Patna.

During the public meeting, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted the historical and cultural ties between Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, saying that the relationship between Uttar Pradesh and Bihar is not just a relationship, it is a shared heritage. It is a connection of one soul, a connection of one culture, and a connection of one resolve. This relationship is as unbreakable as the relationship between Lord Shri Ram and Mother Janaki.
