Prayraj: In an awe-inspiring convergence of devotion, a staggering 296.4 million believers assembled at the sacred Sangam for a holy dip in the Triveni waters on Friday morning in Prayagraj during the ongoing Mahakumbh 2025, reported the Uttar Pradesh Information Department. Notably, this congregation included over 1 million Kalpwasis and more than 3.3 million pilgrims.
Two days after the stampede on Mauni Amavasya in the Mahakumbh held in Prayagraj, UP, the administration has now become alert about Basant Panchami in advance. Officials have assured that better arrangements will be made for Basant Panchami (third Amrit Snan) on February 3.
DIG Vaibhav Krishna says that our effort is that we will make better arrangements for Basant Panchami and ensure that incidents like stampede do not happen again. He told that about 30 people were killed and 60 were injured in the stampede. 25 bodies have been identified. The incident happened when lakhs of devotees gathered at the confluence of Ganga and Yamuna rivers to take a holy bath on the auspicious occasion of Mauni Amavasya. This day was also the day of the second royal bath.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar told on Thursday, “A judicial inquiry commission has been formed to investigate the stampede. At present, we have come here to discuss how we can better organize the Amrit Snan of Basant Panchami and how we can provide better facilities. DGP Kumar also said that he visited the spot in Prayagraj and also met the people undergoing treatment at the medical college.
