The convening of Mahakumbh would contribute over ₹3 lakh crore to Uttar Pradesh’s economy, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Friday. He addressed a question posed by Ragini Sonkar of Samajwadi Party MLA in the UP Assembly, replying with added emphasis on how the economic and development strides were made under his rule.
His administration has taken 8 crore people out of poverty, he noted. About his image of India’s broad economic transformation in the past decade, he said it was mainly thanks to the work of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the 25 crore people now above poverty have risen through the thinnest of slivers emanating from the centre. He said, “This is primarily change happening on a comprehensive level in different industries.”
Uttar Pradesh has increasingly been showing its mettle on the national and global stage, and the Chief Minister also emphasised that. In his efforts to link this recognition with the successful organization of the Mahakumbh 2025, he said the same will spur a major economic boost for the state. “Today, Uttar Pradesh’s potential is visible in the world, the Mahakumbh is going to play a major role in strengthening the economy at more than ₹3 lakh crore,” he said.
He is taking a swipe at the opposition. Adityanath addressed Sonkar directly, saying: “I know how disappointed you are because when your leaders say that India can never become a developed country, you are going to support them.” The remarks of the Chief Minister were directed against the criticism of his government by the Samajwadi Party and were to give recognition to his government’s success in many of the economic development, poverty reduction and infrastructural counts.
During the Mahakumbh, a grand religious gathering held on a 12-year cycle, Uttar Pradesh expects millions of devotees, pilgrims and tourists to come to fuel its tourism and hospitality industries.
