Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the Mahakumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, today (Wednesday), where he took a holy dip in the sacred Triveni Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati rivers. The deep spiritual essence of the festival was seen as PM Modi chanted Vedic mantras and held rudraksha beads while standing in the river.
The prime minister, before going to Sangam, took the boat and went to the grandeur of Mahakumbh that has attracted millions of devotees from all over India and the world along with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Begun on January 13, Paush Purnima, the Mahakumbh Mela considered the world largest spiritual and cultural gathering unfolds with saints, pilgrims, tourists gathering to receive divine experience. The festival will continue till Mahashivratri (February 26) when people will get a chance to visit again and participate in various religious rituals, spiritual discourses and cultural performances.
During his Prayagraj visit, PM Modi also inaugurated 167 development projects worth ₹ 5,500 crore in the connectivity, public amenities and infrastructure domains. The projects are meant to improve pilgrims and tourists experience during the event as well as improve local development.
In the meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government says this once in 12 years mega event has already seen participation of 38 crore pilgrims from India and abroad. However, the administration has taken exhaustive plans to make arrangements for the orderly transportation, security, sanitation, as well as to schedule smooth movement for the unprecedented influx of visitors.
PM Modi’s presence in the Mahakumbh 2025 not only serves to denote the importance of the cultural and ritualistic aspects of the event but also reflects how the government would still pay heed to the cultural and spiritual richness of the country.
