Prayagraj is currently home to the grand Mahakumbh Mela. This is a great spiritual gathering for millions of devotees every 12 years or so. The Mahakumbh started on Paush Purnima and is slated to keep going till Mahashivratri on February 26, 2025. During this time, six major holy baths (Shahi Snan) will occur.
The Shahi Snan on Paush Purnima and Makar Sankranti have been completed so far. The third Shahi Snan (Royal Bath) will take place on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya on January 29, 2025. The fourth Shahi Snan will take place on Basant Panchami on February 3, 2025. Having an auspicious year, unlike the previous years, this Mahakumbh has happened in matchless celestial alignment that happens only once every 144 years.
The Basant Panchami date begins on February 2, 2025, at 9:14 AM till February 3, 2025, at 6:52 AM. Basant Panchami will be celebrated on February 3, according to Udayatithi (sunrise date). On this day, the auspicious Brahma Muhurta for taking a holy dip in the Ganges will commence at 5:23 AM and finish at 6:16 PM.
The deity worshipped on this day is Goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge, wisdom, and arts. The arrival of the spring season also features the festival. Typically, devotees wear yellow clothes and pray to Goddess Saraswati since yellow is an auspicious colour that represents prosperity and energy.
This is a special day, adding the auspicious festival of Basant Panchami, and the Mahakumbh’s Shahi Snan, which draws a sizable number of devoted individuals looking for divine blessings and spiritual upgrades.
