At the Mahakumbh Mela 2025, which is taking place in Prayagraj as one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, the figures for Ayodhya have grown rapidly. At the newly inaugurated Ram Temple, pilgrims are also on their way to seek the blessings of Lord Ram from the mythical place Ayodhya, one of the most visited places by pilgrims who are travelling towards Mahakumbh.

Ayodhya is situated about 160 kilometres from Prayagraj and has become a major stop for devotees on their pilgrimage. Authorities have strengthened security and stepped up crowd management in anticipation of the visitors, having thrown officers on the streets after recent clashes with Muslims.

Divided into six zones and 11 sectors, the city has been divided to be able to efficiently handle the increasing footfall. The new arrangements were confirmed by Ayodhya Superintendent of Police Madhuvan Kumar Singh: “The number of devotees has been rising on a daily basis. It is also being visited by people who are travelling to Prayagraj for the holy dip since the mela has been going on since the beginning. Lakhs of devotees troop in the early morning to take a dip in the sacred Sarayu river, as well as for darshan.”

The visuals from Ayodhya present a sea of devotees, adding to the spiritual aura flowing on the temple premises. Officials are facing round-the-clock challenges of traffic, security, and other logistical challenges. Surveillance systems, additional volunteers, and special police forces have been sent to help the pilgrims and avoid overcrowding.

As millions of devotees start arriving for Maha Kumbh 2025, Ayodhya will continue to be a popular pilgrimage hub throughout the festival and thus will be an important concern in the second term as well, and will have to be kept under continuous monitoring and management to facilitate a smooth experience of devotees.
