Maha Kumbh Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Vaibhav Krishna confirmed that 13 FIRs have been filed against 140 social media handles that disseminated misleading content. He also assured that the police have made all necessary arrangements for the upcoming Maha Shivratri festival on February 26, 2025.
“13 FIRs have been registered against 140 social media handles that shared misleading content… Today, more than 1 crore people have taken a holy dip”, confirmed DIG Krishna.
Earlier, authorities discovered that on 22 February, a video of the 2022 fire on Bangladesh’s Parbat Express train was falsely circulated online with claims that “300 people died in a train fire on 14 February 2025 while travelling to Mahakumbh.” Officials have since taken legal action to prevent the spread of this information.
