The first foundation of the fort was laid by the Rajput warrior Suraj Sen in the sixth century. After invasion and rule through different rulers, the Tomar dynasty captured the fort in 1398. The most famous among the tombs was Mansingh, he had built many monuments inside the fort, which is why now Gwalior Fort will also be a threat on the world map.
