Bhopal: Three more cheetahs have been transitioned from their quarantine enclosures to the Soft Release Boma, a larger and more natural habitat area within Kuno National Park in Sheopur, continuing a recent series of releases.
This latest group of cheetahs includes two females, Asha and Gamini, along with a male named Prabash. Over three consecutive days, a total of seven cheetahs have been introduced into the Soft Release Boma, marking a significant step in their relocation process. Before their release, each cheetah was equipped with a satellite collar to monitor their movements and well-being.
The recent releases follow the introduction of two cheetahs, Gaurav and Shaurya, into the Soft Release Boma on the previous Sunday, followed by Vayu and Agni the following day. This carefully coordinated relocation effort is part of an ongoing initiative to establish a stable and thriving population of cheetahs in Kuno National Park.
The decision to place cheetahs in quarantine enclosures initially arose due to concerns about infections that had led to the unfortunate demise of some cheetahs. These animals underwent close monitoring by experts while in quarantine to ensure their health.
As of the latest update, there are a total of fourteen adult cheetahs in Kuno National Park, with seven having already been released into the Soft Boma. The cheetahs were brought to Kuno from Namibia and South Africa, with six casualties recorded, along with the birth of three cubs to Siyaya. One of the cubs successfully adapted to its environment and continues to thrive within the park’s surroundings. This concerted effort aims to secure a sustainable and flourishing cheetah population within the park, contributing to the conservation of this magnificent species.
