Bhopal: Frustration and disappointment spread among both the BJP and Congress parties in Madhya Pradesh, as supporters of aspiring candidates who were not given tickets for the assembly elections took to the streets in protest. Reports from a news agency indicate that these protests were widespread throughout the state.
In Bhopal, the capital city, aggrieved supporters of BJP legislator and ex-minister, Umashankar Gupta, gathered outside the office of VD Sharma, the state BJP president. They expressed their dissatisfaction. Demanded that party candidate Bhagwandas Sabnani be replaced for the Bhopal South West constituency.
Furthermore, several office bearers from the BJP in the Bhopal South West constituency wrote a letter to the state party chief urging them to nominate Gupta for the seat.
The situation escalated when former BJP MLA KK Shrivastava resigned from his membership in response to his discontent with ticket distribution. He explained his departure in a letter addressed to the state BJP president.
Meanwhile, in Gwalior, supporters of BJP leader Munnalal Goyal, known for his loyalty to Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia staged a protest outside Jai Vilas Palace after Goyal was denied a ticket. To calm down the supporters, Scindia personally went to the palace gate. Made it clear that he still supports Goyal.
On the other side of the political divide, supporters of the incumbent Congress MLA from Badnagar, Murli Morwal, resorted to a violent demonstration outside the residence of the state party chief, Kamal Nath, following Morwal’s omission from the ticket list. The protesters raised slogans, set tires on fire, and demanded the replacement of Congress nominee Rajendra Singh Solanki for the constituency.
Madhya Pradesh Congress’s media department chairman, KK Mishra, countered these protests by emphasizing the overall success of the ticket distribution process. According to him, “positive signals are coming from all over the state,” and he regarded the protests as minor, characterizing them as a family matter that would be resolved.
