Madhya Pradesh: The five-day Assembly Monsoon session of Madhya Pradesh began on Tuesday. State Assembly Speaker Girish Gautam while talking to media persons here on Tuesday said that the session may conclude a day ahead of the schedule as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in the state’s Sheopur district to attend various programmes and the MLAs too will be attending the events.

At the session today, the opposition arrived carrying garlic sacks on their back to lodge a protest against a substantial decrease in the price of the produce. Interacting with the media, former agriculture minister Sachin Yadav said, “The state government is not purchasing garlic from farmers and this has resulted in a steep fall in the price of the produce.” He launched an attack saying the govt failed to fulfil the basic recovery for the farmers’ investment.

The assembly proceedings for today were adjourned for the day after passing obituary references on the demise of six ex-MLAs, ex-union minister Sukhram, ex-MP Chakradhari Singh, Dwarkapeetha Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati, martyrs who laid their lives in Jammu & Kashmir and on Bangladesh border, policemen who were killed in an encounter with poachers in Guna district and certain others, during the intervening period of budget and monsoon sessions.
