Umaria. A wave of leopard attacks has gripped Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Umaria district, Madhya Pradesh, over the past two days. The wild cat has injured 4 people due to which there is an atmosphere of panic among the people. The special team of Bandhavgarh management is engaged in catching the leopard with the help of elephants.
On Thursday evening, the terrorist leopard injured Phoolchand Singh, resident of Kudri village. On Friday morning, it attacked Lokesh, son of Katku Baiga, near a drain in Kudri village of Hirauli Gram Panchayat. When the villagers raised an alarm, it entered a house near the site of the incident. It injured Monika Singh, daughter of Uday Bhan Singh, who was cooking in the kitchen. On Friday evening, it injured 58-year-old Munna Singh in Khori village of Hirauli Gram Panchayat. After injuring 4 people within 2 days, the name of the terrorist leopard has now spread terror in the area.
The year 2024 has seen a rise in leopard attacks in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. In a recent incident, a leopard injured three people in the buffer zone. This highlights the delicate balance between humans and wildlife in the region. Forest officials are taking steps to mitigate such incidents, including awareness campaigns and habitat management. However, the increasing human-wildlife conflict remains a pressing concern.
Forest Range Officer Mukesh Ahirwar says that tracking a leopard is a little more difficult than tracking a tiger. Because leopards climb trees and hide themselves. Along with this, they also hide themselves in Lantana or ditches. However, fresh pugmarks were found in Khori village this morning. On the basis of which the team along with departmental elephants is engaged in rescuing the leopard. The leopard will be rescued soon.
