Former Madhya Pradesh High Court judge who denied bail to comedian Munawar Faruqui joined the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday. Justice Rohit Arya retired three months ago and received BJP’s membership from the state unit chief Dr. Raghavendra Sharma at a program in Bhopal.
Justice Rohit Arya was appointed as the judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on September 2013 and he became a permanent judge on 26 March 2015. He grabbed headlines for denying bail to comedians Nalin Yadav and Munawar Faruqui. Both of the comedians were accused of violating COVID-19 norms and hurting religious sentiments during a New Year event in Indore.Justice Rohit Arya’s Verdict
“The State must endeavour to ensure that this ecosystem and sustenance of coexistence in our welfare society is not polluted by negative forces”, read the order issued by Justice Rohit Arya who emphasised the Constitutional duty to promote harmony.
The decision received criticism when the case reached the Supreme Court. The higher court subsequently overturned the directives issued by the lower court for handling bail petitions as it was directed to handle crimes against women.Join our whatsapp group for Latest updates
