Bhopal: After the distribution of tickets for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, a sense of turmoil has erupted among the aspirants who were denied tickets. Some have taken to the streets, venting their frustration in various ways, tearing clothes, burning effigies, and staging protests. The Congress party is grappling with this situation as well.
Veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh has appealed to all disgruntled party members, activists, and leaders to exercise restraint. He assures them that after winning the elections, justice will be served to all.
In Madhya Pradesh, the distribution of Congress tickets has also seen fierce infighting. Kamal Nath, a former Chief Minister, suggested that those who didn’t get tickets should go and tear Jayvardhan Singh and Digvijay Singh’s clothes. This led to actual instances of clothes being torn and protests on the streets.
During this time, former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh said, “Kamal Nath Ji had surveys conducted by four different agencies. While there may be some objections, 90% of the seats were finalized through the surveys. I would like to request everyone to exercise patience because the Congress is on its way to forming a government. There is an anti-incumbency sentiment against the BJP. Once we win the elections and form a Congress government, justice will be done to the disgruntled candidates.”
Digvijay Singh hinted that the ticket for Shivpuri could go to Veerendra Raghuvanshi. Earlier, K.P. Singh was fielded from Shivpuri to challenge Scindia. However, Digvijay Singh has now indicated a possible change in the ticket for Shivpuri.
This intense period of ticket distribution and dissatisfaction is not unique to Madhya Pradesh, as political parties grapple with selecting candidates and managing aspirant expectations in the lead-up to elections. Such tensions often play out on the public stage, adding to the drama of electoral politics.
