Bhopal: In a significant political development in Madhya Pradesh, the Congress party has released its second list of 85 candidates for the upcoming state assembly elections, leaving only one seat, Amla, undecided. Deputy Collector Nisha Bangre is the rumored contender for the Amla constituency, and her resignation, which has not yet been accepted, is a point of contention. In protest against the delay in accepting her resignation, Bangre initiated a ‘Justice March’ from Betul district to Bhopal.

Congress leaders are vocally supporting Bangre’s candidacy, and the party seems inclined to field her from Amla once the courts address her plea concerning the delayed acceptance of her resignation. This inclination is further underscored by Congress leader Vivek Tankha representing her in the Supreme Court when she filed a special leave petition to expedite the clearance of her resignation. A photograph featuring Bangre, Tankha, and former Congress leader Kapil Sibal has also surfaced publicly. Although the Supreme Court did not grant her special leave petition, Bangre maintains that the apex court has directed the concerned High Court to urgently address her plea.

The timing is crucial for both Bangre and the Congress party, as the nomination process for the Madhya Pradesh 2023 elections commences on October 21, with the final date for nominations set for October 30. Bangre’s decision to resign as Deputy Collector stemmed from being denied permission to hold an inter-faith prayer meeting at her newly constructed residence. She asserted that it was a matter of their rights and religious freedom.

However, insiders from the BJP claim that the bureaucrat has long harbored political aspirations and was seeking to utilize the prayer meeting to launch her election campaign. A BJP functionary from Madhya Pradesh suggested that her actions were theatrical and speculated that she intended to contest the elections from Amla. Party leaders have been advised not to comment on her, as discussing her actions could potentially result in undue publicity, according to the BJP source.
