Bhopal: In the review of Panchayat and Rural Development Department, CM Dr. Mohan Yadav gave instructions to make efforts to increase the wage rate in the state under MNREGA. Presently the wage rate in the state is Rs 221, a letter has been sent to the Central Government to increase it.
Madhya Pradesh, with its vast rural landscape, has seen the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) become a vital lifeline for millions. Enacted in 2005, the scheme guarantees 100 days of work per year to those seeking employment, creating a safety net for the most vulnerable.
With over 87 lakh job cards issued and 64 lakh active cards, MGNREGA in Madhya Pradesh boasts strong participation. The focus on water conservation, land development, and rural infrastructure strengthens communities. From digging trenches to building embankments, these initiatives not only provide temporary wages but also improve drought resilience and agricultural productivity.
However, challenges remain. Wage delays, inadequate awareness, and gender disparities in participation call for stronger monitoring and targeted interventions. Ensuring timely wage payments, CM Mohan now aims to provide better grievance redressal systems, and increased awareness campaigns can strengthen the program’s reach and effectiveness.
