Jabalpur: A major mishap was averted after an Air India aircraft skidded off the runway as the front wheel of the plane lost balance and rammed into the runway lights crushing them at the Dumna airport, Jabalpur.
The flight Air India E-6 was flying from Delhi to Jabalpur and landed at the Dumna airport at 1:15 pm on Saturday.
However, no casualties were reported in the incident in which 55 passengers and 7 crew members were on board.
According to airport director Kusum Das, while landing the front wheel of the aircraft E-6 coming from Delhi lost control and suffered a slip steering through the runway lights and came to a halt as the wheel buried into the soil near the runway.
Top officials of the state, collector, police and rescue forces SRDF rushed to the spot after the incident was reported. Officials from DGCA are also scheduled to arrive for an inspection by evening today. Until then all scheduled flights have been cancelled as the aircraft was stranded and couldn’t be moved immediately. The aircraft has however suffered no major damage he added.
Chaos took over the airport as passengers demanded alternative flights to their destination.
