BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh will soon have a uniform civil code in the state. MP Shivraj Singh Chauhan at a rally in Badwani, Shivraj Singh Chouhan making the announcement said- “Time has come for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code. In Madhya Pradesh, I am forming a committee (to implement UCC). Only one marriage for everyone.”
He added that a committee would be formed to implement the Uniform Civil Code in the state. Addressing the media reporters, he also appealed to the union govt for the implementation of the law centrally.
Recently, the CM of Karnataka also mentioned that his ministers were gathering information on development in various states and what the constitution says vis-a-vis the UCC. It also hinted at the implementation of the code in the state.
The Uniform civil code comes under Article 44 of the Constitution of India. It proposes to introduce personal laws that would apply equally to all citizens, irrespective of their religion, caste, and gender. It essentially refers to a common set of norms governing personal matters such as marriage, divorce, adoption, inheritance, and succession.
