Bhopal: Indian Airforce (IAF) planes crashed mid-air today afternoon killing a pilot. The two IAF fighter jets; a Sukhoi Su-30 and a Mirage 2000 crashed during a training exercise earlier today.
“The fighter aircraft of IAF was involved in an accident near Gwalior today morning. The aircraft was on routine operational flying training mission”, tweeted IAF.
Local police found about the crash at around 10 AM. One aircraft fell in Morena in Madhya Pradesh and the other went down in the general area around Bharatpur, Rajasthan. “The news of the crash of Sukhoi-30 and Mirage-2000 aircraft of the Air Force near Kailaras in Morena is very sad. I have instructed the local administration to cooperate with the Air Force in quick rescue and relief work”, tweeted Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Initial reports claim that the crash was due to the mid-air collision, but no official confirmation has been received so far. The Defence minister, Rajnath Singh has been briefed by IAF chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari.
