BHOPAL: Medical workers and govt doctors from several associations called for a two-hour strike today. Around 10,000 workers are expected to join. An indefinite strike from Feb 17 has also been planned to press for their demands of timely promotion and salary revision.

MP Teachers’ Association president Dr Rakesh Malviya said, “We are asking patients to take date of surgery keeping our strike from February 17. We will sport black badges and observe two- hour strike on February 16. We will go on indefinite strike from February 17 to demand promotions and salary revision.”

As per sources they are demanding revival of Old Pension Scheme and appointment of doctors on administrative posts instead of bureaucrats. Additionally they have also demanded implementation of Dynamic Assured Career Progression (DACP) 2008 in Madhya Pradesh, enacted by the Union Government- implemented in 13 states.

Earlier on Feb 8th, under the banner of ‘MP Shaskiye / Swasahi Chikitsa Mahasangh’ — a union of seven doctors’ associations — carried out Yatra at 38 districts to harness the support. With slogans like “Hum Se Jo takraoge, Ilaj kaha karwao ge,” (If you go up against us, how will you get treated?) a group of over 500 doctors and health workers carried out a march in Bhopal on the culmination of a 12-day-long ‘Chikitsak Jagran Yatra’ Yatra at Gandhi Medical College.
