Indore: Incessant torrential rains have prompted authorities to announce precautionary measures. Indore Collector Manish Singh has declared a holiday for all government and non government schools for classes 1-12th citing the forecast by the met dept.
Flood triggering rains in Madhya Pradesh displaced lakhs and killed two on Monday. According to India Meterological Department (IMD) data, Bhopal airport recorded its highest 24-hour rainfall in a decade on Monday with 250 mm of reported downpour. Overall, Madhya Pradesh recieved 210 mm of rain.
With the rivers Narmada, Shipra, Betwa, Sindh and Shivna in spate sluice gates of 25 dams were opened due to overflowing water. More than 200 villages located on the bank of the Narmada river have been vacated as flood like situation developed.
State home minister Narottam Mishra said, “All the SDERF and home guards are on alert. Many villages, which are affected due to flood, the relief operations are also going on.”
Meanwhile, Bhopal in the last two days has witnessed massive outages as a result of heavy rainfall.
Ninety per cent of Bhopal is facing power cut over the last 24 hours.
“Bhopal city has been deployed 33 KV to restore power supply affected by heavy rain for the last two days. 50% of the total fault feeders have been repaired,” said Madhya Pradesh Central Region Power Distribution Company Limited.
